The Chicago Maternity Center was an innovative home birthing clinic located on the impoverished West Side of the city. After a long battle to keep it open, it was closed in 1973 because of pressure from corporate medical interests. Chicago Women's Liberation Union members helped to lead that struggle to save the Center. Kartemquin Films made a documentary about the Chicago Maternity Center which is available through Facets Multimedia.
